ROCK FANTASY DREAM FOUNDATION

ABOUT THE FOUNDATION

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

A STORY THAT MUST BE TOLD

THE BACKSTORY

OCTOBER 7TH, 2023

On October 7th, the Hamas terror military invaded Israel and murdered over 1,200 people, massacred, mutilated, burned alive, raped, and took over 250 hostages at the Supernova Re’im Music Festival and from the nearby communities of Nir Oz, Be’eri, Kfar Aza and many more.

BACKSTORY

In December 2023, David Fishof, the visionary founder of Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp, embarked on a deeply personal journey to Israel. He was there to visit his friend Sam Grundwerg, Keren Hayesod World Chairman and former Consul General to Israel in Los Angeles, and to witness the aftermath of the devastating events of October 7th. What began as a somber trip took an emotionally powerful turn at the funeral of Yotam Haim, a gifted metal drummer who was taken and held hostage by Hamas and later escaped from the terrorists but was tragically and mistakenly killed by IDF soldiers. Yotam’s brother, Tuval, honored him with a heart-wrenching drum solo, and their father placed Yotam’s cherished drumsticks in the gravesite.

Inspired by this profound display of music’s healing power, Fishof and Grundwerg decided to bring ten Israeli survivors/heroes of the traumatic events to his Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp in Los Angeles in March 2024. Despite the need for discretion to avoid backlash, these ten musicians—each bearing harrowing stories of survival from the Nova Music Festival and the Hamas massacre in nearby communities and the horrors of loved ones held hostage by Hamas—found a sanctuary and healing in music. At the camp, they jammed with rock legends like Sebastian Bach of Skid Row and Michael Anthony of Van Halen, and connected with members of Guns N’ Roses. Their journey culminated in unforgettable performances at LA’s iconic Whisky A Go Go and The Viper Room. One survivor captured the essence of their experience, saying, “I won’t need a psychiatrist, I have my guitar.

HOW THE STORY CONTINUES

Our documentary will capture this incredible transformation, not just in LA but also as these musicians return to Israel. They continue to play together, recently performing at Israel’s 76th anniversary of its independence. We’ll follow their ongoing journey in Israel, including having them play a memorial concert at the Keren Hayesod Israel National Institutions’ headquarters in December 2024 or January 2025, featuring special guests. We will also film the 10 musicians in their homes, capturing their stories, and band rehearsals leading up to the concert.

This story isn’t just about trauma—it’s about the extraordinary healing and uniting power of music. Over four days at Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp, these survivors/heroes forged lasting friendships, industry connections, and rekindled their passion for music and for life itself. Their resilience and renewal are a testament to music’s unique ability to heal wounds and rebuild lives.

WHY THIS STORY MUST BE TOLD

  • The entertainment industry wields significant influence, especially in rock music, where fans of all ages are
  • deeply impacted by their favorite artists.
  • This documentary, focusing on 10 Israeli victims who attended the Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp, delivers a vital message by demonstrating a unique case of music therapy in a time when Israel needs it most due to ongoing protests, boycotts, and attacks against supporters.
  • Prominent figures like Roger Waters have contributed to a climate of hostility and division.Through the voices of these camp participants and world renowned rock stars, we can present an alternative narrative of resilience, creativity, and shared human experience.
  • For 28 years, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp has celebrated the power of music to transcend boundaries and unite people. By documenting the experiences of these 10 Israeli participants, we aim to showcase music as a universal bridge to peace and recuperation. The bottom line is music heals, and this story shows exactly that.
  • This film will also serve as an educational tool, illuminating the realities of what these Israeli heroes have gone through, while highlighting their individual and collect journeys toward healing.
  • Additionally, profits of the film will benefit Keren Hayesod and go towards helping other Israelis impacted by the massacres of Oct. 7 via resilience, therapy, trauma treatment, and more.
